JOEY ZUKRAN
Mtre Joey Zukran obtained his B.C.L. and LL.B. degrees from McGill University’s faculty of law and was called to the Barreau du Québec in 2016. Joey’s fields of concentration include consumer protection, antitrust violations and class actions. The firm handles these cases on a contingency fee basis, which means that the firm’s remuneration is conditional upon obtaining compensation for its clients and class members.
Joey has developed a passion in the field of consumer protection. His experience as a law student volunteering at the Concordia Student Union Legal Information Clinic strengthened his desire to assist consumers, who at times can be very vulnerable. Recognizing the significant disparity between large corporate entities and the individual consumer, Joey aspires to level the playing field and vigorously protect consumers’ rights. Joey is currently leading over 20 class actions in the province of Quebec and is part of a national consortium of attorneys prosecuting Canada’s largest grocery stores and bread producers on allegations of a 16-year bread price-fixing conspiracy. In July of 2024, a historical $500 million settlement was reached with Loblaw and George Weston. The $500 million settlement is the largest anti-trust settlement in Canadian history.
Although Joey generally acts for plaintiffs, in the past he defended four private schools named in a class action claiming reimbursement of tuition during Covid and is currently defending a Quebec company named as a Defendant in a class action involving the resale of tickets.
Joey enjoys lecturing to law students at universities and Cegeps. He taught the 3-credit course on class actions at the University of Ottawa (Civil Law section): “Les actions collectives – DRC4731” and continues to give seminars in the field of consumer protection and class actions. Some notable speaking engagements include the Colloque national sur l’action collective and the National Symposium on Class Actions at Osgoode Hall Law School.
In his free time, Joey volunteers as a coach for the Ville St-Laurent Minor Hockey Association, where the youngest of his three children play.
